Why donating funds can be better than donating food

The Facts

The last thing that Fare Share wants to do is discourage giving of any kind. Traditionally people have given food but there are so many good reasons to donate directly (through CanadaHelps) to Fare Share. Here are a few points:

  • Fare Share can often buy items at a discount that others can't.
  • Fare Share can purchase the items most in need.
  • People who donate will receive a tax receipt (donations over $25 qualify).
  • Our CRA # is: 119061844 RR0001.

3 Ways To Donate

Fare Share Food Banks also receive donations of funds from individuals or groups. You can contribute to Fare Share through Canada Helps

Food Donations

The Cobourg Fare Share Food Bank drop-off is located at the Northam Industrial Park on Division Street in Cobourg — Unit 17. Food Bank collection boxes are also located at No Frills and the Metro supermarket at Northumberland Mall, and at other participating locations at various times throughout the year.

Port Hope Fare Share donations are received year-round in the basement of Port Hope United Church on South Street, just east of Pine Street North. Food Bank collection boxes are also located at the Metro and Davis’ Independent grocery stores. Other collection locations are available in Port Hope seasonally.

In certain circumstances, we are able to collect donations from your location. Please contact us if you'd like to arrange for someone to pick-up your contribution to the food bank.

Fare Share will gladly receive your donations of food and other necessities as listed in the Donation Guidelines. Please visit our site frequently for updates regarding what items we're most in need of, or follow us on Twitter or Facebook to receive instant updates.
